THE AHELOI BATTLE in 917 year
At the beginning of the tenth century crossed Bulgaria seeks for its new affirmation in Eastern Europe. The Bulgarian ruler Simeon The Great was not hiding his ambitions to make his country dominant on the Balkan Peninsula and to dominate upon the Byzantine Empire.
During the year 914 the Bulgarian army takes over Adrianopol, today’s Odrin that held the advance towards Konstantinopol. The Byzantine emperor hoped that with a single general battle would stop the victories march of the Bulgarians and will put an end to their possession.
